FAQ
Still have questions? Here are the answers we’re most often asked about the our compact size Big Green Eggs.
Do I really need a cover for my Big Green Egg?
You don’t have to—but you’ll notice the difference.
The ceramic is built to handle the elements, but a cover protects the metal components, accessories, and overall finish, keeping your setup cleaner and reducing maintenance.
Can I leave my Big Green Egg outside all year without a cover?
You can. The EGG is built for it.
But here’s the reality:
Without a cover → faster wear on metal parts
More cleaning (dust, pollen, leaves)
Cosmetic ageing over time
A cover isn’t mandatory. It’s a longevity and convenience decision.
Are Big Green Egg covers waterproof?
They are weather-resistant, not fully waterproof.
They are designed to:
Repel rain and snow
Allow airflow to prevent condensation
Avoid trapping moisture (which is worse than rain)
This balance is intentional—completely airtight covers would cause mould and rust.
Will a cover trap moisture and cause mould?
Not if you use it properly.
Big Green Egg covers are breathable, but you should:
Let the EGG cool completely before covering
Avoid covering a wet EGG for long periods
Occasionally air it out
Moisture problems usually come from trapping heat or covering too soon, not from the cover itself.
Can I cover my Big Green Egg while it’s still warm?
No.
Covering a warm EGG:
Traps condensation
Can damage the cover over time
Creates the perfect environment for mould
Let it cool fully before covering. Always.
